About
Climate Within Us
Climate Within Us is a blog that explores the intersection of climate change and public health through a personal lens. The name Climate Within Us reflects that climate change is not a distant problem happening outside. It is within us, affecting us physically, emotionally, and socially.
This blog focuses especially on the Seattle area, where the milder climate can sometimes make the effects of climate change feel less urgent. As a high school student in the Seattle area, I created this blog to reflect on what it means to live through climate change today and to raise awareness of its real and growing dangers.
Our Mission
Our mission is to raise awareness about climate change and its impact on public health by making environmental issues more personal and relatable. Through storytelling, this blog aims to help people see how climate change is not just an environmental issue, but one that also affects our health.
Our Story
Hello! I’m Yeonu Kim, a high school student in the Seattle area. About 6 years ago, I moved here from Korea, expecting the rainy, mild climate I had heard about. However, I’ve experienced record-breaking heat waves with 100+ degree days, smoky air due to wildfires, unusual heavy snow, and more. I learned that extreme weather events like these are largely caused by climate change, and they also harm people’s health. Therefore, I created Climate Within Us to share stories, connect them to climate trends, and help others see how these changes not only affect our earth but also our communities.
